Let's go far, far away

No one is here but our chef and our butler. It's perfect.

After reading the news this week (hint: don’t), I decided it was time to exit reality and go somewhere far, far away. Paws up!

Paws Up Ranch

There is a specific frequency to the Montana wilderness, a low, rhythmic hum that vibrates somewhere between the swoosh of dry ponderosa pines and the distant rush of the Blackfoot River. When you arrive at The Resort at Paws Up, the first thing you notice isn’t the grandeur of the 37,000-acre ranch, but the sudden, startling absence of noise. The digital static that usually clings to your psyche begins to dissolve before you’ve even unpacked.

You sigh with happiness. You have arrived (and may never leave again).

‘I’ll be in the woods next week”

In the world of luxury travel, "glamping" is a tired term, but at Paws Up, it is elevated to a form of restorative art. Imagine walking into a "tent" that feels more like a cathedral of canvas and timber. Your feet land on heated slate floors (I don’t even have those in my home!); your eyes rest on fine linens (really? I’ll never look at my plain kitchen towels the same again) and rugged, hand-hewn furniture. This is the Cliffside Camp, where your private deck hangs over the swirling waters of the river below.

The experience here is designed to remove the friction of modern life. You are a resident of the wild, looked after by a camping butler (seriously, this is a thing) who handles the logistics of your day so your brain doesn't have to. There are no schedules to keep, no notifications demanding your attention. There is only the sun moving across the Big Sky.

Going Somewhere? Protect Your Trip (and Your Sanity)

Before you pack your bags, take a moment to cover the unexpected. From last-minute cancellations to lost luggage and surprise sprained ankles, travel insurance makes sure your adventure doesn’t come with regrets.

You might never need it - and that’s the best-case scenario. But if you do, you’ll be glad you took 60 seconds to protect yourself.

Life happens

Oh bell’s yes!

The Morning Ritual

Morning starts with the smell of huckleberry pancakes (forget your normal low carb lifestyle) and the sound of a distant horse nicker. You step outside, coffee in hand, and watch the mist rise off the Blackfoot. The air is crisp, the kind of cold that feels clean in your lungs.

You might spend your afternoon "forest bathing" or horseback riding through meadows that seem to roll on forever. There is a profound psychological shift that happens when your gaze moves from a six-inch screen to a thirty-mile horizon. Your heart rate slows. Your breathing deepens. You begin to notice the small things: the iridescent wing of a dragonfly, the scent of crushed sagebrush under a horse’s hoof, the way the light turns honey-gold at four in the afternoon.

You only had to escape into the middle of nowhere and turn your phone off to feel like a human being.

The Food!

That fresh air and exercise fun will make you really hungry. The food is absolutely delicious and it’s totally fine to defend your plate from your spouse. She can ask for more. Whether it’s a refined, multi-course experience at Pomp or a rustic "Chuck Wagon" dinner under the stars, the food is hyper-local and honest. They have 7 (!) restaurants - that has to be enough that each family gets their own restaurant.

You’ll find yourself having an actual conversation (the kind that goes all over the place) because the phone is tucked away, forgotten in a leather bag. It’s weird. Really weird, in a good way.

Perfection

The Midnight Silence

As night falls, the true magic of a digital detox reveals itself. Without the light pollution of a city or the blue light of a tablet, the stars at Paws Up are aggressive in their brightness. The Milky Way stretches across the sky like a “spilled gallon of silver ink” (that’s the kind of creativity you have when you aren’t scowling at the news).

You retire to your “cabin” or “tent”, the cool mountain air filtered through the canvas, and you realize the "phantom vibrations" in your pocket have finally stopped. For the first time in months, your mind is quiet. You aren't thinking about the next email or the next headline. You are simply there, tucked into a corner of Montana, rediscovered. You are tired, really tired, and it is wonderful. You sleep more deeply than you have in years.

Paws Up is a vacation that gives you back your soul and your attention span. It reminds you that the world is vast, smells good, is beautiful, and that you are a part of it, not just an observer through a glass screen.

This world is worth fighting for. The fighting can wait for your return.

I’ll be breathing deeply and eating another helping of the pie. See you next week.
